New Hope Christian Academy Statement of Faith
New Hope Christian Academy holds the following Statement of Faith as being a summary of Christian doctrine whose authority consists only in its agreement with the Word of God and is at the core of our educational teachings. We believe:
The Scriptures are true, authoritative and sufficient (Psalm 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
There is only one true God, Creator of heaven and earth, who eternally exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:5-6; Isaiah 46:9-10; John 17:3; 1 Corinthians 8:4-6; 1 Timothy 2:5; Genesis 1:26; Psalm 45:6-7; Psalm 110:1; Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:17-20; 1 Corinthians 12:4-6).
All things exist for the glory of God (Psalm 148; Proverbs 16:4; Isaiah 61:3; Romans 11:33-36; 1 Corinthians 10:31; 2 Corinthians 5:15; Ephesians 1:3-14).
All humanity, Christ excluded, is sinful by both birth and action (Genesis 6:5; Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:23; 5:8, 12-21; 7:18; Ephesians 2:1-3).
The deserved penalty for sin is physical and spiritual death (Genesis 2:15-17; Genesis 3:19; Romans 5:12; 6:23; James 1:14-15).
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, was born of a virgin and is both fully God and fully human (Matthew 1:20; Luke 2:52; John 1:1-4, 14; Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 1:1-3).
Jesus Christ died as the sacrificial substitute to pay the penalty for sin (John 1:29; 10:1-18; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 1:4; 1 Peter 3:18).
Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and will one day physically return (Matthew 28:1-20; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-53; John 1:20-21:25; 1 Corinthians 15:12-34; John 14:3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Hebrews 9:28; 1 John 3:2; Revelation 1:7).
There will be a future physical resurrection of the dead. Only those who turn from sin and to Jesus in faith and repentance will be raised to eternal reward. Those who do not turn from sin and to Jesus will be raised to eternal punishment (Matthew 25:31-46; John 5:28-29; Acts 24:15).
Only through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ and repentance from sin can one be reconciled to God and experience true life and joy (John 3:18, 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:21-26; 1 Timothy 2:5-6).
Salvation, the free gift of God, is provided by grace alone, through faith alone, because of Christ alone, for the glory of God alone. Anyone repenting of sin by the miracle of regeneration and looking to Christ and His substitutionary death receives the gift of eternal life and is declared righteous by God as a free gift. The believer is forgiven the debt of his sin and liberated from the law of sin and death into the freedom of God’s Spirit. (John 3:16-18; Romans 5:15-17; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8; Ephesians 3:7).
Statement of Faith: Marriage, Gender and Sexuality
Marriage - We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen 2:18-25) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb 13:4.) We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. Families who choose to associate with New Hope Christian Academy must agree to the same.
Sexual Immorality - We believe that sexual acts outside of marriage are prohibited as sinful. New Hope Christian Academy employees and volunteers must resist and refrain from any and all sexual acts outside marriage - including but not limited to adultery, fornication, same-sex sexual acts and/or pornography. (Ex 20:14; Lev 18:7-23, Lev 20:10-21, Deut 5:18, Matt 15:18-20; Matt 5:27-28; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Cor 6:9-13; 1 Thess 4:3; Heb 13:4, Gal 5:19, Eph 4:17-19, Col 3:5). Families who choose to associate with New Hope Christian Academy must agree to the same.
Sexual Identity - We believe that God wonderfully creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. Consequently, New Hope Christian Academy Employees and Volunteers must affirm their biological sex and refrain from any and all attempts to physically change, alter, or disagree with their predominant biological sex – including but not limited to elective sex-reassignment, transvestite, transgender, or non-binary “genderqueer” acts or conduct. (Gen 1:26-28; Rom 1:26-32, 1 Cor 6:9-11). Families who choose to associate with New Hope Christian Academy must agree to the same.
Sexual Orientation - We believe that God created and ordered human sexuality to the permanent, exclusive, comprehensive, and conjugal “one flesh” union of man and woman, intrinsically ordered to procreation and biological family, and in furtherance of the moral, spiritual, and public good of binding father, mother, and child. Consequently, New Hope Christian Academy employees and volunteers must affirm the sexual complementarity of man and woman and resist any and all same-sex sexual attractions and refrain from any and all same-sex sexual acts or conduct, which are intrinsically disordered. (Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6, Mark 10:5-9, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Ephesians 5:25- 27, Revelation 19:7-9, Revelation 21:2). Families who choose to associate with New Hope Christian Academy must agree to the same.
Sexual Redemption - We believe that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and should seek redemption through confession, repentance, baptism, and faith in Jesus Christ. Consequently, New Hope Christian Academy employees and volunteers must treat with respect, compassion, and sensitivity all who experience same-sex attractions or confess sexually immoral acts but are committed to resisting sexual temptation, refraining from sexual immorality, and conforming their behavior to New Hope’s Statement of Faith. (Matthew 11:28-30, Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:1-10, I Corinthians 10:13, Hebrews 2:17-18, Hebrews 4:14-16). Families who choose to associate with New Hope Christian Academy must agree to the same.
Application - We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of New Hope Christian Academy, and to provide a biblical role model to our students, families and community, it is imperative that all employees and volunteers, agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender and Sexuality. This is necessary to accomplish our biblical mission, goals and purpose. Behavior or counter-witnessing that does otherwise will impede and burden our integrity and spiritual mission. We believe that God’s grace can wipe the slate of guilt and sin, though the consequences of sin are still incurred. (Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:14-16; 1 Thessalonians 5:22).
NHCA Lifestyle Statement
New Hope Christian Academy seeks to provide an environment consistent with the school’s biblical positions. As such, New Hope has certain responsibilities and concerns that other schools may not address when considering a student’s conduct or attitude. New Hope Christian Academy faculty and students must present themselves as representatives of Christ (Colossians 3:23).
This sense of responsibility has led New Hope Christian Academy to adopt a Code of Conduct for students and faculty members. Most of the Code relates to the student’s behavior during school hours. However, certain regulations must also apply to the student’s and staff member's off-campus life. Parents and students must read and agree to these regulations. Enrollment in New Hope Christian Academy should not be considered if a student’s lifestyle is not in accord with the Lifestyle Statement.
New Hope Christian Academy’s biblical role is to work in conjunction with the home to develop students to be mature, Christ-like individuals. Of necessity, this involves the school’s understanding and belief of what qualities and characteristics exemplify Christ. Even though parents may personally believe differently, all students enrolled at NHCA are expected to exhibit the Christian qualities espoused and taught by the school and to refrain from certain activities or behaviors. On occasion, the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home may be counter to the biblical lifestyle the school espouses and teaches. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the inability to support the ethical and moral principles of the school (I Corinthians 6:9-20).
Part of this ethical and moral policy includes sexual immorality. This includes, but is not limited to, any student or parent who professes to be homosexual/bisexual or is a practicing homosexual/bisexual as well as any student or parent who condones, supports, or otherwise promotes such practices (Leviticus 18; Romans 1:25-27). In such cases, the school reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to refuse admission of an applicant or to discontinue enrollment of a student.
