PreK3

Bob Jones “Footsteps for 4’s

Footsteps for Fours presents active, hands-on learning with a balance of class activities and individual or small group learning centers. Daily math, phonics, and pre-reading lessons are interspersed with age-appropriate music, science, language arts, social studies, and handwriting segments. Footsteps for Fours is a 5-day program designed for use in full- or half-day programs. It offers flexibility for all types of learners at all stages of learning. Your preschool student will be eager for each new lesson and its accompanying stories, songs, and activities. Footsteps for Fours presents interactive, hands-on learning—with an emphasis on having fun together as a class.

The program is unique in that it provides a solid academic foundation for children based on understanding rather than just memorizing while in a fun, hands-on learning approach. Actual learning takes place in the activities, discussions, experiments, and center play. Activities throughout the curriculum are varied, repeated, and offered in ways that meet the needs of students who learn best through approaches that are visual, auditory, or kinesthetic (include physical movement). By providing multiple exposures to a concept, all children grasp those concepts and skills at their own speed and learning style.

A student-discovery approach to learning rather than an exclusively teacher-directed approach is provided through Footsteps for Fours. Whether in large group instruction, or in the smaller environment of a learning center, children are offered many opportunities for that “eureka moment” as they engage in problem-solving activities. Children are encouraged to think critically as they respond to multiple levels of questioning.

Based on individual readiness, we have had a few of our 3-year-old students reading CVC words and little books at the end of the year!

Bible, Purposeful Design

This Bible series focuses on the foundational teachings from the Bible about the nature and character of God, the qualities of His people, and His church. Students are given an overview of the Bible, with an emphasis on God's attributes, biblical characters, the early Church, and what it means to know Jesus Christ and live for Him.  Scripture memory is embedded in each week's lesson. Not only does it include a review of the Bible story, but it also provides practice in tracing, counting, knowing color words, and identifying things that are the same and things that are different. It's a fine blending of pre-K skills with biblical concepts, presented in a fun and engaging way!

SuperKids Reading Program

The Superkids® Reading program is a core literacy curriculum for PreK4 through 2nd grade that teaches all aspects of reading seamlessly integrated with the language arts. Built on scientific research and proven pedagogy, it combines rigorous instruction with highly motivating materials.

Why Superkids Works

Systematic, Explicit Instruction: The Superkids Reading Program is a system of instruction. The step-by-step lessons build skills systematically as children progress from K4 through 2nd grade, creating confident readers.

Decodable Text: As children learn new phonetic elements, they immediately apply these skills to engaging decodable literary and informational text. By second grade, children have learned the phonetic elements necessary to read text that isn't phonetically controlled.

Integration: Superkids integrates reading, spelling, handwriting, grammar, and composition into one program.

Motivation: Children love the engaging Superkids characters. Each character has a unique personality and interests. The Superkids stories capture the universal experiences of childhood.

By the time they finish the program, students have acquired the linguistic understanding required to develop into a fully literate individual. After Superkids, third-graders can read on grade level with accuracy, fluency, and understanding in any reading program.

Early Bird Kindergarten Mathematics

Kindergarten Mathematics is a comprehensive, activity-based program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematics. The program aims to prepare young students for subsequent stages of mathematical thinking. In the textbook, mathematical concepts are developed in a systematic, engaging and fun way. Hands-on tasks, meaningful activities, and attractive illustrations engage students’ active participation in the learning process. The series also provides easy-to-follow guidance in various forms to allow for meaningful intervention by parents and teachers.

Teach Preschool Science

To adults, the ways of the world are pretty much "old hat". After all, how many times have we seen the sun rise and set, or water disappearing down the drain, or turned a light switch on and off? But to a child, everything is new and mysterious. Connections aren't formed yet, the "whole" is not seen - only parts that don't seem to connect. No wonder children use "magical thinking" to make sense of their surroundings.

How can we, as teachers, caregivers and parents, guide their journey of discovery? We can describe with words, but many of the words are new, too. We can read stories, of course, and show pictures, and sing songs. But ultimately, for children to make the connections and develop logical thinking, they must experience and discover and wonder and question themselves, using their own senses, and not once, but MANY times.

This curriculum is a compilation/collection of 75 core discovery experiences that are intrinsically interesting and fun, and they also lead to questioning and a desire to know more. They can be presented many times, and each time new connections will be made, and "mystery" will gradually become reality and knowledge. The material covers Life Science: Plants and Animals, Life Science: People, Earth and Sky Science, and, Physical Science.

Social Studies

K4 Social Studies is incorporated throughout the year, with specific theme weeks, following along the same themes as presented in the K3 “Footsteps for 4’s.” This allows for more community interaction with the two grade levels, as well as a comprehensive and strategic use of field trips, special class visitors, library events, etc. Our teachers have mastered the fine art of using Pinterest, and the Social Studies program is complete.
